I am a game developer, so I needed some pretty good specs. This right here is the best processor you can get before you need a $250 mobo and DDR4 RAM. During the first whole day of me installing software, this did not even go above 35% usage. I have yet to have any complaints about this, and I am just running it at 4.2 GHz. My boot time with this is less than 15 seconds after I push the power button, and love it!

The best of best of the i7's. A beast of a processor for any computer you have. Great for overclocking. Will handle any thing you throw at it. Works great with Windows and Linux.

I used this processor in my latest build: Gigabyte GA-Z97n-Gaming5 motherboard, 16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 RAM, Noctua Dual Tower CPU Cooler, ASUS GTX970 mini, and a Corsair 650w PSU in a modded Raijinek Metis case. The CPU/GPU combination push the ASUS PB258Q 25 WQHD 2560x1440 monitor along at highest settings for all the games I have played on it thus far. Heat is also not a problem: idle is in the high 20s and low 30s, and peaks are in the high 60s when gaming. I could not be more pleased.

REALLY REALLY FASTwith one catchREALLY REALLY HOTyou're gonna want water cooling for this one: I reccommend Kraken x41, I used it on mine and now its running at 60C at max rather than almost getting fried. Its better to make that $100 investment and be safe then to try and do stock cooling and potentially losing $350.

Very fast CPU, I haven't tried any overclocking yet. Using the stock frequency and with the most heat setting of Prime95 stress tester my liquid cooling system is not able to keep up and it overheats. Using the balanced setting of Prime95 it does fine. This may not bode very well for overclocking, I may need to upgrade my cooling system. I'm using a Corsair H60 120mm liquid cooler with Tuniq TX-4 ultra high performance thermal compound. My previous CPU, an i5 4670K, did not come near overheating under the same conditions. Since this i7 uses hyper threading on 4 cores for a total of 8 threads, along with the higher frequency, increases it's workload greatly. I'm also not sure how well Prime95 really simulates actual conditions. Nothing else I've thrown at it in normal usage causes an overheat. More testing ahead. The Amazon Prime only special price on this was nice too.Update:I updated to a 240mm water cooler and this CPU is now running much cooler even with some mild overclocking but it still cannot handle Prime95's most heat setting. It immediately overheats. I think that test may not reflect real world conditions. Nothing else, even with some overclocking, comes near to overheating the CPU. I don't know if the Prime95 application was written with this type of processor in mind. So I will continue to test with a bit more overclocking and see what happens. I won't test any further with that 'most heat' setting of Prime95. Otherwise this CPU has been working great, no problems at all. With this CPU and an SSD boot drive Windows 10 boots almost instantly.Update:It was suggested that I try an older version of Prime95 to test (see comments) and it does work as it should with the older 26.6 version. It runs at 68-70 C using the same settings that caused it to overheat with the later version. Some internet research verifies this to be an issue between at least some of the latest Intel CPUs and the later Prime95 versions. I had suspected it to be an issue with Prime 95 and apparently it is. So if you are going to use Prime95 to test this CPU, I at least, recommend you use the earlier version of Prime95 to avoid prematurely making toast out of your CPU.

This is a super fast CPU. I dumped the stock CPU fan in favor of a more hearty water-cooled unit for overclocking purposes. Performance has been stellar.

Awesome upgrade! I recently built a new system around this CPU using the 4790k, the MSI Gaming 5 Motherboard, the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler, and the Coolermaster HAF 922 Case. The i7 is really fast and handles all of my games, video streaming, and video encoding without any problems. I was lucky enough to get this CPU right before Skylake came out, so I saved some money on getting a quality processor on last year's flagship processor. If you are looking to build a powerful computer but aren't ready for Skylake Devil's Canyon won't disappoint!

My best purchase yet, this CPU hasn't let me down and runs very smoothly. I can never push it past 50% and it stays very cool and I play lots of games and occasionally render videos.
