Other reviewers have posted benchmarks and reviews, and most are aware that it performs close to the newer i7-6700k. Having owned a i7-3770S, i7-5820k, FX-8320E, A10-7850k and many others, I'd have to say the most important part of any CPU is its processing power (most importantly) and features or features of the chipset (ie SATA3 vs. SATA2, PCI 3.0 vs. 2.0, M.2, etc.). Do the i7-6700k's offer enough new features to choose them over the i7-4790k? Maybe if you're starting from scratch. The i7-6700k's do support DDR3 low voltage, and if you find a motherboard your old RAM may work with the chip. But high voltage RAM (assuming you're not using DDR3L) can strain the memory controller, and potentially void the warranty. Anyone with an LGA1150 board or a considerable amount a spare DDR3 memory, looking to build a high end system should give this processor a glance.

This was exactly the upgrade that I needed. I do some heavy gaming and this processor solved some FPS issues that I had been experiencing with the 8-CORE AMD processor that I used previously. The swap required that a compatible motherboard be installed. It went much more smoothly than I had anticipated. The entire system is running faster and glitch free with the i7-4790K installed.
