I built my previous computer more than 6 years ago, and was due a refresh. So, naturally, I wanted the best bang-for-the-buck processor in my new build. Enter the i7-4790K. Four cores, eight threads, and a base clock speed of 4 GHz make this processor a best buy, IMO. They redesigned the thermal layer in this CPU, so the temperatures remain incredibly manageable while overclocking it. That being said, this processor is so fast that I haven't even bothered OC'ing it, and my setup is more than capable of doing so - it's paired with an ASRock Z97 motherboard, fast RAM, etc. This processor is a no-brainer for anyone looking to upgrade, and if you pair this with a solid state drive, it'll blow your mind how fast everything becomes. Amazon will only let me give it 5 stars, but it truly deserves more.

Worked on first boot as expected. I recommend a bigger heat sink because inside the case gets super hot on the stock one. You can feel the heat if you put your hand a few inches away when the CPU is under load. It chews through everything easily but you need to keep it cool! I recommend something with good value like a CM Hyper 212 cooler. Installed on a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI board and 16GB ram (Red CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R) and it works well.

As I said before... At last a CPU that will NOT hesitate to OC!!!I've been in this market of Overclock Madness since the days of 486 DX2 CPUs, that means I was an early stater... Hehehe!Going back on track, this CPU will fulfill the expectations of anyone seeking a good upgrade while keeping the same Z87 motherboard to the ones willing to have a better OC experience compared to 4770K. Now I feel and see my GTX 780 being pleased by my shinny i7-4790k. I don't wan't to arbitrary say that I got a golden one but this one does not break a sweat when it is OC'd to 4.8GHz @ 1.3v / 86C Max!!!Definetly you will not regret...

Like the cooler temps compared to earlier Haswell CPU's and overclocks better than my 4770K but not by much.
