Coming from a 4770K you would think there isn't a large difference but it all comes down to the chip itself. My previous 4770K ran hot and needed a lot of voltage for a measly 4.6giggle setup (1.4v+). A 4790K can do that fairly easily in most cases under 1.3v which obviously helps keep the chip cool.
I would recommended this chip.
I have this bad boy running my hackingtosh system along with VMware and two versions of windows, everything runs smooth. I do video editing and this was the perfect cup for me, fast renders along with 16 gigs of ram.

Wonderful keyboard! I have a son that likes to throw food/coke all over my keyboards when I'm not looking. This had paid for itself 5 times over since I bought it. Highly recommend for anyhone with kids or butterfigers.
Sell blood, sell a liver, sell your wife. Whatever you have to sell to splurge the extra $100 to get this over the i5, sell it. This thing is totally worth it. I don't know what else to say. Running at 4.4 this runs through anything you throw at it. Have fun!

This is the chip to get at the moment for those who want to overclock, but cannot afford the $1000 chip (i75690X). I am enjoying the speed and the overclocking capabilities of this chip. I got the 4.0 Ghz version vs. the 4.1 Ghz version. I was expecting the 4.1 Ghz version, but at this point it really doesn't matter. I have been able to overclock to 4.9 Ghz with a simple push of a buttion on my ASUS motherboard.
I'm sitting here, typing on the computer that I bought this for. I'm smiling my face off just thinking on all the pressure that i placed on this cpu for five days straight. It didn't even flinch. This cpu right here is why I love custom building computers. Powerful, slightly expensive, but worth it. OC'ing this was a breeze compared to others, and it stayed cool (about 60-70 Celsius) even with an air cooled system. (I'm gonna retest with a liquid coolant system and see how it works then)
