It's amazing that even after several years of upgraded technology, this CPU is still holding it's own amongst the competition, even with its newer hexacore cousin the i7-6800k. Single core performance in some cases are still even better, which goes to show the ingenuity of this generation. If you already/still have an LGA 1151 motherboard and DDR3 memory and don't need or want to move up to the newer motherboards and RAM, this is a great option that will still last you at least a few more years of top-notch performance.

perfect running 4.6 at steady 70c on a h55don't see why you would NOT want to buy it unless you had the spare bucks to blow on a skylake tho I've seen skylake dosent give much for the extra money'spurchased from microcenter

Have this chip and is still fast. But ..yea there is a but .....lol...it needs water cooling and good ventilation or that BSOD will appear. Changed the original intel fan to a more advanced and still see temps over 65 C ..even 80 C ..Someone recommended the corsair h100 cooler but when with the 60 one and that worked better for my nxst s340 case ...since that case has some vent issues. Will change the case alter for a corsair carbide 500r that case is big but keept my temps low on my previous build. The chip still competes with the new i5s k's of today. Will keep it at least one more year if not more.

I purchased this chip as a replacement to my older i5 4690k. The 4790k, a member of the same Haswell family. I purchased it for the 4.0 Ghz out of the box clock speed....As with my last chip this one comes in quite a unexpected small box(not sure what I was expecting). Within the box is the processor which is contained in its own transportation sleeve. Also contained within is the stock cooler and thermal paste. I replaced this paste with a market leading brand in lieu of a water cooler that I am waiting for. I have noticed that the fan can make quite a bit of noise and the processor temp will soar when it is stressed.I have been impressed with the amazing performance boost that installing this CPU has given me and it is working very well along side my ASUS Gtx 970 Strix, with them tearing up all the games that i have on the highest settings. I am very aware that the majority of games at the moment do not require anything more than four cores but I chose this processor to future proof my pc a little. This processor has given me many options to upgrade my pc if I choose in the future.This CPU can be overclocked, hence the K and again I don't state that I am an expert in this field but I have read instances of this CPU reahing speeds in excess of 4.5- 4.6 Ghz, with there being many other reviews and websites that can give more information than my basic knowledge, so please look to them:)All in all, I am very impressed with the quality, power and ability of this chip, this is when paired with an equally capable pc build. The price of the chip is to be expected for both the name of manufacturer and quality of the product, I must complain about the need to buy a better cooling system and I think for the price it should be provided as part of the package, but that's just a small point. Great CPU and I am pleased with my purchase...

Installing this thing was probably the most nerve racking thing about assembling my computer. I connected this to an ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero. It runs beautifully. My computer start up time is around 10-15 seconds and programs open up almost instantly. I did not use the fan included with this. I'm not sure I would recommend doing that ESPECIALLY if you're overclocking. I have mine running on a water cooled system with two dedicated fans. Actually I have been using this for about 8 months now and still love it. I'm not an expert. In fact, this was my first build and it was an awesome experience. This little guy is kind of costly but if you're looking for a little future proofing, this might be a good way to go. RAM can be upgraded later as it advances.

You aren't saving yourself any money by buying this model in today's computer building world. It runs fast, works great, but it's not going to be compatible with facial recognition or VR supporting. The cost difference between this and a new Intel model are insignificant for the amount of additional features you'll get with a 6th gen Intel and a Stargazer camera.
