Great high end CPU.Runs any game on high to ultra setting on a solid fps, and that's with it being bottle necked by my GTX 960. I would recommend 16gb's of RAM (or more) and at least a GTX 1060 to match the performance of the very nice CPU.(It was only after a couple of months of use that I have realised that it has actually turbo'ed itself to 4.3 ghz, with just a slightly above average cooler, great CPU overall. I would 100% reccomend).
Amazing processor for a gen 4 i7. It out performs just about every other processor all the way up to the gen 6 i7's in it's class of quad cores. With a well rounded build you can run a music production studio suite while simultaneously gaming and/or performing other tasks that are considered high-stress for your system. If finding compatible motherboards wasn't an issue, and I were given the option between this processor and some of the newer gen 7's even, I would opt for this same 4790K processor in builds moving forward.
I've had this processor for almost a year and it still just chews up and spits out everything I throw at it. Games, video editing, OBS recording, you name it. Overclocks easily with a decent cooler.PC Specs:CPU: i7-4790k (4.4Ghz)Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 140mm (CPU under load doesn't go over 50C)RAM: 16GB Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600GPU: ROG Strix GTX 1070Case: Fractal Design Define R4 WindowStorage: 1x PNY 120GB SSD and 1TB WD Caviar Blue
Power house, plain and simple. If you already have a socket 1150 motherboard and DDR3 DIMMs, there is not yet much point in upgrading to the i7-6700k or i7-7700k, as all 3 have roughly the same performance and the latter two would require a new motherboard and all new DDR4 DIMMs.If your 4790k doesn't overclock very well, learn why by Googling silicon lottery , and look into swapping it with another somehow. They should overclock to ~4.5ghz with air cooling(use a tower cooler, not the stock cooler. Stock heatsink is small.)
Wonderful product, I've upgraded from the stock i3-4000s to this. Much improved and faster. Great for HD streaming games like Twitch or YTG. Rarely goes over 20% while streaming at 1080p 60FPS with the OBS studio. I recommend this processor.
I put this in my first ever computer build, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I hardly ever come close to using all of the power that this thing is capable of. Plays all of my games with no issues. Very happy customer.
Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) BX80646I74790K
It meets all your needs, high performance, low temperature! Without a shadow of doubt one of the best ever made today.
I decided to upgrade my 1150 from a 4590 while waiting on the Optane technology to come out. What an upgrade! I had some stutter in games running 3440x1440p, now nothing. Overclocked to 4.4, 4.6 and 4.8 with air cooling in a ASUS Maximus Hero VI with no problems.
Received fast, and the necessary upgrade to eliminate the bottleneck on my 1070. I do recommend the devil's canyon line over the haswell for the bonus frequency and thermal benefits of an improved heat spreader-die contact. This processor in its own is evidence that intel listened to the PC enthusiasts so I recommend it entirely if you still have a LGA 1150 chipset board.
This was a 2nd purchase for my dad. He really like the first 1 we got him but it was lost in a fire. He requested the same keyboard again so it's working well for him. He likes that he can clean the keys without damage, he also likes the dark letters on the while keys.
Bought this Oct, 2013 and have been using it daily since then. Still no problems even after numerous monthly rinses under the shower head and moderately vigorous shakes to get the water off.The flaws:1) The kick-stands on the bottom broke off for me not even after a month of use. Haven't missed them very much though.2) The usb cap broke off as well, but doesn't impact my use of the keyboard. I usually put the usb part of the keyboard in my pocket while rinsing the keyboard anyway.3) As someone who uses the FN keys to control the volume frequently, I vehemently hate whoever decided to place the power key right next to the increase volume key. As you can imagine, absentmindedly reaching for the keys in this case can result in disaster if you're in the middle of something important. However, I've been able to remedy this issue by affixing a twist tie underneath the key so that it can't be pressed.
Even in early 2017 I was still happy with my purchase of a new Haswell generation i7-4790K. In most metrics it is equal to or outperforms its successor the i7-6700K. The 7700K may now have the edge but like the 6700K is lga1151 and would require updating my current motherboard and ram which is much more expense for little perceived benefit. I decided to purchase this new directly from Amazon because many, used on ebay, regularly go for $250+. Without knowing what the previous owner did to the cpu I'd rather pay $50 more for the assurance that I have a new product with Amazon's excellent customer service behind it. I overclocked only a little but have more satisfactory temperatures at stock configuration of 4ghz base, 4.4ghz turbo which is plenty of power. If you are building an all new system go for the i7-7700k as it will be supported on newer motherboards with newer options like USB-C etc. If you already have a lga1150 motherboard and want to move up from an i3 or I5 this will be cheaper than adopting a whole new motherboard platform and you won't be disappointed.
