    Upgraded from i5-4690k. Didn't expect to see that much improvement, definitely worth the price for upgrade. Over clocked to 4.8 GHz with ease and noticeable improvement.System Specsi7-4790K @ 4.8GhzASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1CPU Cooler Corsair H6016GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SC 6GB x2 SLIAcer XB270HU 144Hz 27-inch 1440EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 80+ GOLDSSD - Crucial MX200 250GB - OSSSD - Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB - GamesHDD - WD Blue 1TB - Backup & VideosOS: W 10 Pro

Compared to the i5-4690k, it performs just a bit better in games, but when you try to stream and game at the same time, this wins all the time.

If you are building a gaming computer this is by far the most cost effective way to go. I don't see myself having to replace this chip for at least 6 years. Nothing I throw at it is too much, from gaming to video rendering.

Have had this installed now for for 18 months plus , still very pleased with performance, using with Asus Maximus VII Motherboard, GTX780 Graphics, and combination of Samsung and Sandisk SSDs, My only slight concern is the Temperatures it produces under load, idle at 40c is fine but loaded it can get to 86c with Video work, I am just about to go down the Liquid Cooling Route with a Fractal Kelvin S23 to match my Fractal r5 Case, will update the results when i have fitted.Update The Fractal liquid cooler was Very Poor Quality so returned it , Changed the Thermal paste and temps are much more stable now

The i7-4790K still out performs more recent iterations of the Core i7 line from Intel. If you want the performance king of Intel processors, this is still the one you want, even as of July 2016. That being said, you MUST get an aftermarket cooler for it whether you want to overclock or not. The processor itself is great, but Intel's stock cooling solutions are garbage and have been for some time. Personally I use the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, but I don't plan on doing any heavy overclocking.

This was near top of the line when I bought it. It's still blazing fast. I do lot's of CPU-intensive work, and this makes downtime much shorter. If you're looking for a CPU for a basic computer, look at the i3 variants instead.

Coming from the FX-6300 I can honestly tell you, this is one hell of an upgrade, and well worth it. Everything is so smooth and I can put the graphics up without worrying about any bottlenecking.
