This is a fantastic CPU! I wanted to build an ITX gaming rig and this processor should keep my system up to spec for many years into the future, especially with DirectX12 helping CPUs be more useful in games. I'm using an MSI Z97I AC motherboard with this chip. The MSI board lets me use an 'enhanced turbo' feature that makes the Intel Turbo Boost work on all the cores (up to 4.4Ghz). With a Noctua NH-D9L cooler I'm getting idle temps at 25-30C with the fan @ 1000rpm (very quiet) running the 4.4Ghz on all cores. I could overclock to get closer to 5.0Ghz but it is probably not worth it as this chip is already overkill for most apps and games. I'll be looking forward to what AMD is going to do with Zen, but for now this 4790K is the chip to have!
I am guilty of eating/drinking while using my keyboard. Being able to wash and brush it clean under running water is a boon. It isn't covered in a plastic film, as other washable keyboards I've used. The keys have a 'positive' feel. I prefer this keyboard to my other 'regular' keyboards.
Great CPU, renders videos extremely fast for me. Overall great CPU. THE ONLY THING IS THAT COOLER. I have never said this before as the stock cooler for my previous CPU and APU have been fine (as in not annoying loud in my opinion). But for this one please do yourself a favor and get a aftermarket cooler. I personally have not yet because of financial reasons but when I am rendering videos or playing a Cities Skyline that fan is so loud. And it is really ineffective when the CPU is being stressed at those levels. My PC does not crash but 80c-85c is not cool. During normal gaming it almost never goes over 60c however and sounds fine. But since I render videos for YouTube frequently it does get a bit annoying.
Apart from the washable factor it's just an average or slightly above average keyboard. If you don't care about the washable factor then your better off getting a different keyboard which will either be better or cheaper or maybe both. However the washable factor for me is really really cool. Over the years I've killed many keyboards by spilling drinks on them so for me the peace of mind knowing that if I spill a drink on this keyboard I can wash it off and key working is worth the extra price.

other keyboards only lasted me 6 months but this one is going strong without having problems. and it is amazing that i have not had sticky keys yet, i can spill lots of foods and drinks on it and it does not phase the function of the key board!
I can have do nearly everything shy of games and have my usage stay under 10%. This is a VERY fast processor that can handle multitasking and makes my new system worth every penny. You definitely want to build your system around a great processor, and this i7 is probably the best you can find for a gaming system right now.
Performance is enough for most gaming, but overclocking this piece is a pain. The default frequency is high enough, so it is hard to push the clock higher, but the major issue is the TEMPERATURE. Cores can get EXTREMELY HOT under load if you overclock and add core voltage. I probably have got a bad piece, which requires a voltage of 1.23v at 4.6GHz. This was the stablest voltage for my 4790K, I have tried to reduce the voltage and it caused blue screens even when gaming. However, under AIDA64 stability test the average core temperature is about 95℃, which prevented further overclocking (i tried push the frequency to 4.7GHz at higher voltage, but the core was overheat when doing the stability test, then the frequency dropped. Pleace note that I am using a 240mm cooler master liquid cooler with all the fans running at max speed). The difference of performance between 4.4GHz and 4,7GHz is barely noticeable even at benchmark test. I am now buying a Haswell-E processor, with larger surface area and soldered IHS, its cooling performance are much better than the 4790K, and there will be a huge gain in performance if you overclock it to above 4GHz. Maybe several years later i will have it delidded and build a custom-loop water cooling for it, see if I can push the frequency higher.
