I've used a few better (and so many worse) tactile keyboard mechanisms over 40 years. Sadly the best were made in the early 1980s by Cherry and they had real springs. But in this era where silicone rubber has replaced the mechanical spring, your choices are limited. Moisture resistance is the biggest deal now. In many otherwise-excellent keyboard designs the spillage of a small amount of EVEN CLEAN WATER ends groups of keys or the whole keyboard. Even after thorough flush with 90% alcohol and days of drying, you often cannot bring them back. Oh... I've tried, how I've tried.
This is a good clean design with flat rectangular keys and a solid throw. The moisture resistance on mine has been tested even with sugary drinks. You have to disassemble and clean CAREFULLY, don't do it while you're angry! but it is guaranteed successful. If the world ended and I was floating in space with my computer I'd want to have a couple of these on hand. THE ENGINEERS AT LOGITECH DESERVE A GRAND HURRAH FOR the COURAGE to fight planned obsolescence and produce THIS NO-BRAINER solution.
TWO MODS I have done on mine. (1) Tired of a life-long battle with CAPS LOCK? Pop off the key, tape it off to the side and lay a piece of black electrical tape over the post. You can still use it but will no longer iNTERFere wiTH TYping. (2) Fixed a SMALL engineering boo-boo: pop off the space bar carefully. You will see two small vertical ridges rising from the body on the left and right sides. They are unnecessary and there is inadequate clearance to the ends of the space key, it can cause the space bar to stick. Shave them off with a razor blade. Blow out the clippings, replace the space bar, be sure the metal hooks slide UNDER the restrainer. And presto, you have a space bar that operates reliably along its length. An honest THANK YOU engineers, another hallmark of good design is that you can fix it in the field. 5 stars!
Just plugged it in, and I am very pleased by the action of this keyboard. The one I use at work is sloppy, fat and cheap---I've gotten used to it. This board feels sleek, is quiet and responsive, and donut crumbs can't get in. I've killed too many keyboards spilling soft drinks into them, and this one stands up to that, too: I purposely dunked it in water to see how well it really cleans up, per the directions on the little brochure, and it came through just fine. I'll never use anything else with my desktop. Logitech used to make cordless controllers for the old XBox, and I had two. They always worked very well. Just like this board. Get one, if you live next to your computer like I do.
Look, this is not an uber high end keyboard. It is a basic USB keyboard that just happens to have easy to see white keys and I find this useful. It works great for what it is.
I love it! Absolutely no cons if you ask me. I have no issues with the USB cable being too short, the raised keys, or lack of front stands, etc.
I love how it types, I love how it has a brush clicked to the back for quickly dusting off crums, I love that I can easily wipe it down with a Lysol wipe and not lose crumbs forever into the bottomless pit like most keyboards...it is wonderful!
The colors are cool too...no complaints here and it really is great for messy people!
I've used a lot of keyboards in my time, and this one stands out from the others in several ways... The look and feel is nice. It's lightweight, but sufficiently sturdy to sit still as you type. The keys feel quite solid, without being heavy to press, and they feel like they could withstand a lot of abuse. Design is pleasing to the eye, and the keys and letters are very high contrast, which would be good in dim conditions. It's quite easy to type on, although a little more cramped than other keyboards, so expect a few more typos. Overall feel is different to most other keyboards, but in a good way. The texture of the keys just feels nice under your fingers. Some people here have said the keyboard is very quiet, but I don't really think so. It's noisy compared to the similarly-designed Apple keyboard, and not quite as easy to type on either, so I give it only 4 stars.
I had to update a few things on my computer after I plugged the keyboard in, but other than that, works great. Buttons are a little high off the base plate, but you get over that quickly.
I am a touch typist and require a keyboard that is easy to work with. I like hearing the keys click a bit so I know I have pressed hard enough to select each letter. This keyboard is easy to clean and easy to see at night when I am working late on a report.
I didn't buy this keyboard because it's washable, but rather because of the white keys and the reviews which praised the feel of them as you type. The keys do not stick and are comfortably responsive for a touch-typist like me. The white background makes them easy to see, even in dim light. I'm a writer who has worn the letters off of three keyboards in the past two years. This keyboard has a protective coating over the keys. Will it hold up? I don't yet know, but so far so good. At least in the meantime, I can enjoy a truly responsive keyboard that I can actually see!
After three years, I can say that this is the best keyboard I've ever had. I've washed it several times, in a sink of warm soapy water and a dish brush. I dry it off with a towel, then let it air dry under the keys.
Snacking at the keyboard has been a habit of mine for years. Evidently, cheese & peanut butter snack crackers are every bit as tasty to Pharoah Ants (Monomorium pharaonis) as they are to me (humanus stupidae). Who knew?
Of course, there weren't that many ants, maybe a dozen or two, max, so I figured I'd just turn the keyboard upside down and smack the crumbs out of it. The next thing I knew I was in the middle of a flippin' Indiana Jones movie.
My wife said Um, Honey, too bad you can't wash that keyboard. which led directly to this purchase.
Turns out, this keyboard has a really great feel to it. I've only had it a couple of weeks, but I'm about to order at least two more. I have the one with the white keys and the contrast is a welcome feature. Plus, no more ants!
I have been using mine for a few months and think it's one of the quietest keyboards short of a mac-style chiclet keyboard, I enjoy the tactile sensation for pressing them (similar to a regular keyboard) because I am sure when I have fully depressed a key. This is the best keyboard I've ever owned.
If the washable property wasn't already enough of a selling point, this keyboard is every bit as stylish and functional as it waterproof. Perfect for anyone, whether you have messy kids, clumsy hands, or you just need a simple keyboard; this will do that trick. The keys are responsive, requiring the perfect amount of pressure to activate. the sound is subdued, so you still that nice click-y sound of a keyboard, but at a softer, lower pitch that isn't nearly as annoying.
Again: whether for the washable feature, or just because you need a new keyboard, this one will fit the bill and then some!
Typing is smooth on this keyboard. I learned to type in Highschool and have worked in Computer technology for the last 15 years. So I do a lot of typing spend a lot of time with my keyboard. This keyboard seems smoother than a lot of keyboards I have been using lately. I use it with Windows 7 Pro 64bit. Installed the Logitech software so all the function keys work. All works as expected. We shall see how durable it is over time. But it feels sturdy. I won't be dunking it in water but I will use survace wipes to clean it and it is easy to clean. So far just been able to brush most of the stuff that gets between the keys away.
I hate how grimy keyboards get - I normally replace them every couple of years because you can never get them clean. I love this one. I have yet to wash it - but I use the little brush that comes with it every day - all keyboards should come with a little brush attached. I'm a touch-typer and don't always look at the screen or keyboard - never have issues with the keys not pressing or issues with misjudging the spacing of the keys. I have yet to notice any rubbing off of the letters.
